Horacio Salinas

I came across Horacio Salinas when I was searching the internet. I tried to find his bio and more information about him but he seems to be a pretty obscure person. All I figured out was that he was born in New York and his parents are Argentine immigrants.

I am really drawn to the humor found in most of his work. The images appear to be simple but the ideas and coming up with them are very complex. I plan on trying to imitate his humor in my studio work that I am starting in a few weeks.

My favorite image above is the one of the cupcake wrapper and the girl. They are two completely different things yet they fit perfectly together. It seems to hint at the connection between a girls waist line and the food she eats.

Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison

This married couple work together as a team to create surreal images. The use what they call the "Everyman" in much of their work. The Everyman is a man dressed in a black suit and starched white shirt that is earths protector, healer, and communicator.

Here is what Robert had to say about the work: "I want to make images that have open, narrative qualities, enough to suggest ideas about human limits. I want there to be a combination of the past juxtaposed with the modern. I use nature to symbolize the search, saving a tree, watering the earth. In this fabricated world, strange clouds of smog float by; there are holes in the sky. These mythic images mirror our world, where nature is domesticated, controlled, and destroyed."

These images really catch my eye. The are so striking that it is hard to look away. I plan on using their concepts for my Constructed Reality project. I want to show the connection between nature and man and how we should start to treat the earth better.
